Moon News: October 2026 Full Moon in Taurus
Sunday October 25th at 9:11pm, the Moon will reach her fullness at 2 degrees of Taurus. The moon will be opposite Venus, and square Pluto.
This full Moon will be taking place after several other important transits happening this week. First is the Venus cazimi taking place on the 23rd of October. Cazimi is a conjunction or alignment in the sky of a planet with the sun, and is regarded as an auspicious day. On the 24th at 2:12 am Mercury will station retrograde at 20 degrees Scorpio, joining Venus in her retrograde there. The 25th Venus will retrograde backward into her home sign of Libra, where the retrograde effects should be somewhat helped by Venus being at home. Then the Moon will oppose her in the evening for the lunation.
The opposition between the Moon and Venus is a degree-based opposition, they are not in opposing signs. The signs of Taurus and Libra are both ruled by Venus. Venus is at home in Libra, and the moon is exalted in Taurus, making this opposition a bit more agreeable. Still, when planets are in opposition, they cannot see each other. They are on either side of the sky, and we stand on the Earth as the fulcrum between them. It is a moment to learn to balance between the energies of the two planets, which in this case are the retrograde Venus, and the Moon. Venus retrograde wants us to reevaluate the beautiful. It is a time for new aesthetic values to form in the collective consciousness, and a time for beauty to arrive in unexpected places. The full moon is a time for culmination and release, and the moon is the planet of mother, water, subconscious desire, and nurturing. Perhaps balance can be found between these two in the Venusian signs by acknowledging and giving ourselves permission to experience and appreciate repressed desires for pleasure which seem socially unacceptable or ugly. It is okay to have desires, even if they are not the desires prescribed by society for someone of your age, gender, or community group. It is okay to seek joy and pleasure while you have the gift of a body to enjoy it. You can check your birth chart to find which house these planets will be in to find out more specifics about what areas of life this opposition will affect.
But this opposition takes place in a larger configuration, because Pluto is square both Venus and the Moon on Sunday at 5 degrees of Aquarius. Pluto just recently stationed direct on October 15th after being retrograde since May 6th, and is an outer planet which stays in one sign for decades at a time. This brings in an element of collective evaluation into the aspects of this full Moon. Pluto is the generational planet of (severe) change and transformation, and placed in Aquarius it seems to point to a transforming of the world through a desperate, but inventive lens. Pluto lies directly between the Moon and Venus, and guides the energy of their opposition into a distinctly dark, taboo, and frightening realm of unfamiliar boundary pushing. Pluto brings an intensity that is biting and forceful, potentially bitter and hard to swallow. Yet most of us can look at the world in which we live and agree that change is expediently necessary, even at the cost of our comfort for a time.
Let’s take a look at the Tarot correspondences for this configuration.
The moon is represented in the Tarot by the High Priestess, and Venus by the Empress. I will represent Venus in retrograde with the Empress in reverse, as there is a departure from normal archetypical behavior. Pluto has no traditional signification in Tarot, as it was only discovered in 1930, long after the first tarot cards were used, and after the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn assigned their astrological meanings to the cards. Modern readers often associate the Judgement card with Pluto. The golden dawn originally associated it with the elements of Fire and Spirit. The configuration of these Majors is evocative to me of an element of tension around the concept of motherhood, or perhaps parenthood more generally. I am reminded of the difficult decisions so many families are making today about whether or not to have children, and the fight for legislation that allows for those choices to be informed and deliberate. More and more people are choosing not to have children due to the current political and economic climate, and the decision to have children or not is often harshly judged by those close to us, and those in power. This might be a touchy subject on Sunday, especially if the configuration is touching your fifth house.
This spread also evokes the idea of birth as an archetypical transcendent experience during which the self is separated into two, and the ego is discarded through both pain and love, beauty and blood. There is an old wives’ tale that more babies are born on full moons than on other days. Perhaps that will be true this month, and perhaps those of us not literally giving birth will also have an opportunity to partake in our own flavor of transcendence.
The locations of these planets in the language of the Tarot are in the decan cards. Venus is at 29 degrees of Libra, which is the 4 of Swords. The moon is at 2 degrees Taurus, which is the 5 of Pentacles, and Pluto is located at 3 degrees of Aquarius, which is the 5 of swords. The fives in Tarot represent strife, which is to be expected with this transit already. The Four of Swords suggests whatever happens on this full moon may be something we need to sit with for a while, I would guess at least through the rest of the Venus retrograde season.
The Moon placed in Taurus is also represented by the second decan of Taurus, and the 6 of Pentacles, the card of fair wealth distribution and mutual aid. May we strive through the strife of the fives toward this higher expression of the exalted Moon. You might want to get in a fight with your republican uncle and feel like you really won the conversation, but it may be more productive to let your ego about the argument die, and approach the conversation from a perspective of the shared material world. Ask him if he’s voting for matieral improvements, or a billionaire’s puppet show. Or, avoid the conversation that you know you both can’t help screaming through (Mercury will be retrograde after all,) and go build your own tangible community connections.
Rituals I would suggest for this full moon are clearing and cleansing, decluttering and cleaning, reaching for altered states through meditation, breath work, or ecstatic dancing, indulging in self care and bodily pleasure, and especially on this full moon, I would recommend chord cutting, banishing, and burning away the old so you can dream of the new to come.
