Moon News: December Full Moon 2025

On December 4th 2025, the full moon will take place in Gemini. The moon will be opposing the sun and mars in Sagittarius, which is fitting for the moments gearing up for holiday gatherings where many of us have to deal with the overwhelming bustle of getting things ready for gifts and family gatherings, the overstimulation of a house full of relatives, and maybe even some tense relationships that have a pattern of resulting in conflict or high stress moments during the holidays.

There is so much to do, so many people to see, and so few hours to get it done, while at the same time we’re all telling ourselves to focus on the true meaning of the season, like the fact that we love our friends and family, and that enjoying each moment of light in this dark time of year is what will get us through the winter. I’m sure you’re just as aware as I am of the cognitive dissonance brought on while cursing about messy gift wrap and botched gingerbread recipes but also trying to remember that what really matters is the people you love, and maintaining hope in the darkness.

This December Full Moon News is all about rituals to smooth out that disconnect, and bring focus to your Yuletide. I’ve written a spell you can do on your own, or in community, and several other practices you can add into your life to keep things running smoothly and make your end of year feel cozy, refreshing, and meaningful.

First let’s talk about those things we can do throughout the season to keep ourselves cheerful, enchanted, and above the stress.

  1. First, do the things that have worked for centuries. Even if you don’t see the point right away, the winter holiday traditions have stuck around because they work. So decorate! Eat good food! Go to parties! Burn candles and bonfires, and put up twinkle lights! And sing! Music is healing, and making cheerful music in the winter is a genuine antidote to melancholy.

  2. Next, you’re going to update the magical protections for your home and yourself to specifically protect against potential pitfalls of the season. Do workings to banish negativity from your home and holiday. Ward yourself against consumerist propaganda, greed, and comparison or jealousy of others. Ward yourself against fights with troublesome relatives, and maybe even put someone who you expect to start arguments in a sweetening jar preemptively. The prepared witch is a strong witch, who can assert her boundaries and not let toxic behavior go on in her presence.

  3. Remember to keep the cleansing circulating in your home throughout the winter. Don’t let your house get stuffy and the energy get stale. As a witch, you don’t need to be afraid of the winter. So open those windows and doors for a while every week or so, and let the air circulate, and the energy refresh. This is also the perfect time to cleanse your home with smoke, or sweep out the door with your magical broom.

  4. If you make moon water on this full moon, use it in your holiday recipes that call for water, and bring the energy of the moon in Gemini to enhance communication between your loved ones right to the gathering through the food everyone will eat. Traditional warming spices also tend to be good for enhancing affectionate feelings between people, and are plentiful this time of year.

Now let’s cover a simple ritual you can do to infuse a token with the energy of this full moon to bring serenity to your holidays. This is the ritual meditation we will be doing at the Spirit Night Coven in-person moon circle.

Start by cleansing your space and preparing how you normally would. Cast a circle, burn incense, or whatever you need to do. Next prepare your focal points. The first focal point will be the instructions of this meditation. The next one can be something you hold in your hands, you can use any object, but at our in person meeting, we will be using cinnamon sticks. (This will be the token we are enchanting) The third focal point will be movement in your body. This can be the rhythm of your breathing, and you can rock or sway. Don’t try to sit perfectly still. These sensory inputs of moving, touching, and hearing will help you focus your energy through the ritual. If you want to keep your eyes open rather than closing them to visualize, then you can also look at the item in your hands.

Here are the meditation instructions (to be read aloud at the in-person gathering)

Imagine yourself in a cozy room. You’re sitting in a comfortable chair, the air is the perfect temperature, you’re drinking something tasty, there is a warm glowing light surrounding you, and shining out from you.

Trace a pentagram over your heart.

Say aloud “I seal this light in my heart. I am protected from unnecessary emotional strain.”

The light now recedes to just shining above your skin, warm and glowing. This is your energy, and you are in perfect control of where it goes. Where it does go, there isn’t room for interference from petty conflicts. Your energy warms a space, and brings joy wherever you are.

Now, as you sit in the cozy spot of your imagination, picture a window, where silver light is coming in to shine on you. The moon tonight is full, and is sending you energy, clarity, and flexibility.

As the silver light from the moon mixes with your own golden light, feel yourself growing calm. The energy she sends you will guide you toward the projects that matter this season. The clarity will help you prioritize where that energy goes first, and the flexibility will allow you to bend in the wind when things don’t go exactly how you imagined.

The gold and silver lights combine to make a bright champagne color. Now I want you to feel the object in your hands. Allow the light and warmth to grow around that object. Surround it with a growing ball of serenity. Feel it growing warmer as the light surrounds it. As you breathe, the light grows, as you sway, the light grows. Let it grow until it fills up the room, emanating from the object in your hands.

Now, I want you to squeeze the object between your hands. Use however much pressure you would like. As you squeeze, the ball of light around your object begins to compress. It gets more and more concentrated, it gets brighter, and warmer, until it all fits inside your object.

Now, take your finger, and trace a pentagram onto your object, or in the air just above it.

Say aloud “I seal this light in this token. It will keep me sane, and serene through the end of the year.”

Now, your token is sealed. Take a few deep breaths.

Shake out any extra buzzing in your body. Wiggle your toes and fingers, stand up, and stretch to refresh yourself.

To use your token, you can place it near your doorway, or in your door jam as a filter, so that negative energy can’t get through to permeate your space when people are coming over for the holidays.

You can use it as an ingredient in food that guests will eat, to infuse everyone with that warm calm feeling.

You can carry it on your person when you visit relatives, or when you go shopping this season to shield you from the draining bustle.

If you have a particular problematic relative you know you’ll be seeing, you can write their name on your token to keep them in line, and if they manage to disturb the peace anyway, you can smash the token to clear them and their issues out of your home.
